Building at Wolf Creek

A GUIDE TO GET STARTED BUILDING

Design Your House, using an architect, builder, stock plans, or yourself.

Stake out the rough location on your property. Your general contractor can help you with this.

Apply for a Septic Permit. The Jackson County Health Department phone number is 828-586-8994. The application requires your property identification number available from The Mapping Office, phone 828-586-7532. (Note: You will need to know the rough exterior dimensions and number of bedrooms.)

Schedule an appointment with The Health Department to determine the location of your septic field. You should call for an appointment one to two weeks after filing your permit.

Apply for your building permit at the permit office, phone 828-586-7560. You will need a finalized set of blueprints at this time. Your general contractor can help you with this step also.

Prepare your site, create driveway, excavate, etc. You can begin this stage without having the building permit.

Have your well drilled. The well driller can help you with the well location.

Apply for electric with Haywood Electric, phone 800-951-6088. Application fees are waived if you have your currrent electric company send a letter of good credit. Once you have your building permit, you can have a temporary pole installed and inspected.

Obtain a 911 address from Emergency Management, phone 828-586-7508. This process should begin automatically when you apply for a building permit.

Apply for a phone with GTE, phone 800-483-4300.
